Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Honors Convocation?

A: This award ceremony recognizes the best and brightest students and their scholarly achievements. Students who are awarded Academic Excellence, Outstanding Achievement, or other named awards by their college will receive a plaque.  Students Awarded the Dean's Academic Distinction Awards will be awarded a pin in recognition of this honor.  The pins change each year; students are encouraged to wear them at graduation.  Seniors will receive a medallion in addition to the pin.  The Honors Convocation Recognition and Awards will be presented by the Dean and/or Associate Dean of each College.

Q: Who is invited to this event?

A: Students who have been nominated by a faculty person, college dean or a department committee to receive recognition at the Honors Convocation and students with a cumulative GPA of 3.9 and above.

Q: Can my friends and family attend?

A: Only juniors, seniors and named award winners may bring up to 2 guests, and they must RSVP by the set deadline.  A live webcast will be available on the day of the event for friends and family who are unable to attend the event.

Q: How do I RSVP for myself and my guests?

A: RSVP online before the deadline.  It is very important that all attendees RSVP by the deadline as space is limited and this event traditionally fills the Theatre.

Q:  Are there any exceptions to the 2 guest limit?

A: You may request additional guests to be on a stand by list, when you pick up your tickets.  We will notify you if tickets are available.

Q: Do I need to be there the whole time?

A: Yes. Please plan to stay for the entire event 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.  Don’t forget check-in/registration starts at 6:00 p.m.

Q: Is there a dress code?

A: Yes. Business casual is the attire for this event.

Q: Where is Disabled Parking for Campus Visitors?

Short-term Disabled Parking is located in parking lots through-out the campus. These spaces are lined in blue and clearly marked.  Further information can be found on line at: http://parking.ucr.edu/visitor/disabled.html

Q: When do I wear the medallion and/or pin(s)?

A: The Dean's Academic Distinction Awards recognizes undergraduate students maintaining a GPA of 3.9 or above by awarding a pin each year that their GPA is maintained. In their graduating year, the award is a medallion on which the other pins may be attached. The decorated medallion may be worn over their graduation gown during Commencement Ceremony.

Q: Where can I pick up the Honors Convocation Pin if I am unable to attend the ceremony?

A: Your pin will be available starting June 1, 2017 at the Office of Undergraduate Education, 1100 Hinderaker.

Q: Who can I contact if I have questions?
